OK, maybe it doesn’t sound that exciting. But this year’s resolution doesn’t have to end in February – you just need a workout that keeps you coming back for more. And let’s face it: 45 minutes on the treadmill just isn’t that riveting.
Here are some of our top picks for workouts that will have you keeping New Years resolutions all year long. And they’re not far from The Colonel Apartments, because who treks miles to work out?
Reformation Fitness (1300-1302 9th St NW)
Doesn’t the name just inspire you? This is the only gym we have listed on our site. Why? Well, we’ve heard it’s fantastic. They offer a diverse set of exercises designed to strengthen your entire body – a mix of barre, yoga, and strength training. Best of all? Class sizes are small, if you’re not into the whole sweaty-crowd-in-one-room deal.
Xtend Barre DC (1228 Blagden Alley NW)
No, barre isn’t just for girls. (Haven’t you heard? Even Football players take ballet.) And this really isn’t a typical barre class, either. Like Reformation Fitness, Xtend is all about mixing things up, fusing ballet, Pilates, and dance to whittle away that Christmas honey ham. This is a challenging class for anyone. No tutu required.
Downtown Boxing Club (917 M St NW)
Bossman got you down? Get yourself to the Downtown Boxing Club and let some of that negative energy out. There’s nothing like a solid punch to the bag to make you feel better (and hey, those twigs you call arms will thank you). You might not turn into Rocky, but then again, you might.
Primal Fitness (219 M St NW)
Does the word “primal” give you shudders, and visions of piles of meat? Well, it shouldn’t. And neither should the word “Crossfit.” No, it’s not a cult. It’s a fun way to make friends and gain strength so you can carry all your grocery bags back to The Colonel in one trip. Oh, they also teach Parkour, so if you want to get cooler in 2015, this is probably one of your best bets.
Honestly, before writing this article, we didn’t even realize how many places there were to work out around The Colonel. It’s so convenient that we’re running out of excuses (no pun intended) – and we hope you are, too. Get out there and give these workouts a try! You’ve got nothing to lose. Except, you know, the weight.
