Unique Valentine’s Day Options Near The Colonel

Tired of the same old Italian place you’ve been going to every Valentine’s Day? Ready to try something different? The Shaw neighborhood has got you covered. Discover a new cuisine, cook, or enjoy a simple seasonal, local meal with your significant other this Valentine’s Day. Here are some unique Valentine’s Day options near The Colonel community.

Seasonal Pantry (1314 ½ 9th Street NW)

If you haven’t heard, “Supper Clubs” are the coolest new thing. Unfortunately, Seasonal Pantry’s Valentine’s Day communal supper is already full, but you can create your own romantic version at your place. Drop by any time between 12 and 7 Thursday-Saturday, and pick up fresh, local, seasonal ingredients for the best homemade DC dinner money can buy. (NOTE: some cooking skills required – enlist the help of your S.O. if you wish, and check out the “idea board” for some killer meal suggestions.)

Chercher Ethiopian Restaurant (1334 9th Street NW)

This place has a good, un-stuffy, “kick-back-and-relax” vibe – nice if you’re just planning on heading home afterwards for a Netflix marathon. Come with someone you love – the Ethiopian meal experience is more intimate than you’d expect. Every meal starts with a bread called “injura,” (who doesn’t get excited about bread?) and you and your guest will eat from the same plate to kick off the meal, “signifying the bonds of loyalty and friendship,” according to the site. (Or…more than friendship.) Then, enjoy a succulent stew. You’ll come home full and happy.

Table DC (903 N Street NW)

Make a reservation ASAP – this place was just named “Best New Restaurant” by the Washington City Paper, which means everyone who wants to impress their date will be here on the 14th. This is the land of first, second, and third courses – make sure you dress to impress. You can get a preview of the menu on the website, but it changes, so nothing is really guaranteed. Everyone will find something they’ll enjoy – adventurous eaters will be pleased to see escargot on the menu; vegetarians get their own menu.

Whichever restaurant you choose, you really can’t go wrong. Afterward, go for a stroll with your honey – and enjoy the beautiful Shaw neighborhood that you call home.
